Andy Wasserman is a professional musician and educator. His extremely popular workshops have brought world-wide musical connections to millions of students since 1979. His workshop encourages students to nurture a greater appreciation and awareness of world cultures using music as a voice for unity, peace, understanding and harmony.
A school-wide assembly this morning with Wasserman kicked off a 6-day residency with the 4th grade.
Wasserman shared “the gift of music” with TES students by introducing them to instruments from around the globe, including the koto (Japan), gong (China), djembe (Africa), doumbek (Middle East), as well as Native American instruments and Latin percussion. The children were asked to listen closely to each instrument, follow rhythm patterns, participate in making music together, and try out the instruments.
Wasserman also spoke of music’s power to bring peace and unite people across different cultures. He concluded the assembly with his theme song, “The Voice of Unity.”
