Science Can Dance

A four-day STEM program where science and the natural world come to life through the exciting and dynamic creative movement experience. Students explore and move based on classroom topics while practicing critical thinking skills, creative problem solving, and cooperative sharing of ideas in an environment that values each members’ contribution to the creative process. Topics include flowers turning into seeds, the water cycle, and the life of a tree.

Oculus for Music Education

The Oculus has a particular program called "Beat Saber." This program helps students strengthen their rhythm reading skills in a fun kinesthetic way. Students would use this in program in General Music class (8th) as well as Music Enrichment. (6th and 7th). For hygiene concerns I have included disposable VR masks and cleaner.

Our Changing Earth

Science educator John Miller of Pearl Observatories is bringing an engaging Earth science program to the second grader's classroom. This four-day program includes hand-on activities such as making a model earth and discovering how the continents drifted apart, learning about fossils, and building/erupting a volcano.

Parade of Nations

This six-day program helps first graders learn folk dances representing a country or culture while also learning about history, geography, music, and traditional attire.

BJ Ward Residency

Poet BJ Ward will spend four days reading and discussing poetry with each class. Students will publish their own poem in a class booklet, discover poetry with the assistance of a harmonica and silly glasses, and read poems by Pulitzer Prize winning authors.

Science Exploration

Four separate programs through the Hunterdon Parks Department are provided throughout the year, including Animal Adaptations, Rocks and Minerals, Recycling, and Physics in Nature. Read more here

2022-2023 In Review

Although we were unable to bring providers in-person, we managed to accomplish quite a bit and raise funds through exciting events and generous donations. In 2020-2021, we saw Astronomy Night, Show Some Love to a Teacher, a Holocaust Speaker, Kentucky Bourbon Tasting Event, and Mini Grants including a virtual field trip with a zookeeper for our remote 2nd graders and wind Instrument try-out kits for our 3rd graders.

Parade of Nations with Joanna Atkins

Parade of Nations

While participating in Mrs. Atkins’ 6-day multi-cultural dance program, first grade students will be exposed to the music, dance, history and geography of a variety of cultures from around the world. The culminating performance provide students with the ability to share their hidden talents with the school community as they take part in a Parade of Nations. It is a true celebration of diversity.

Health & Wellness with Pro-Activity Associates

Health & Wellness

During this year-long program, students learn about 5 "elements" of health: move, fuel, recover, connect and endure. Students work as a team to earn points for making healthy choices throughout the year. A virtual blog will be available to parents to facilitate the family discussing topics and teaming up together. The culminating event of this wellness program is a 1-mile fun run and 5k race.

Writing with BJ Ward

In this 2-day program (brought to the 5th Grade by a special teacher request), award-winning poet and author, BJ Ward, will visit each class and guide them in writing two new poems--one on each day--using poems by famous poets as prompts. Students will already have had BJ Ward's revision lesson at the end of 3rd Grade. As such, they should have a good understanding of how to shape a poem and consider its word choices. These are two highly-anticipated days of generating new work/writing by the students, as well as the usual mix-in of fun and laughter that they have learned to expect while working with BJ during 3rd Grade.

Family STEM Night at TES

The TEF will open up the doors for families to experiment with STEM. TEF-sponsored programs and providers will be on-site to demonstrate what students experience in the classroom. Science stations, experiments, demonstrations and hands-on activities for all ages.

Pound Physical Activity Class

Pound Physical Activity Class with Hunterdon Healthcare

Sixth graders will be receiving a TEF-sponsored physical activity program administered by a Hunterdon Health and Wellness Center fitness instructor. If you've dreamed of channeling your inner rock star into a fitness plan, it's time to POUND. Created by two female drummers, the POUND workout fuses cardio interval training with drumming to provide a challenging, heart-pumping workout. Students will experience a new form of physical activity and have a ton of fun!

Smart Car Developers

In this 5-day program students will work in teams to program robots with visual programming software. The robot will act as a self-driving car and the students will pick one of three routes to program the car to drive through. Each route comes with unique challenges, such as changing lanes and stopping for pedestrians. Staff will guide students through the process of writing, debugging and watching their code come alive as they implement their code in a robot.

Cyber Addiction with Hunterdon Healthcare

Seventh graders will be receiving a TEF-sponsored program on cyber-addiction administered by a school-based youth services coordinator from Hunterdon Behavioral Health. Students will learn what cyber-addiction is, how excessive internet use can impact wellness and the brain, and discuss ways to develop a healthy relationship with technology.

Dissection with Liberty Science Center

This three-day issection workshop will begin with an introductory lesson to acquaint students to anatomical directions, dissection tools and procedure on Day 1, followed by 2 days of dissections. Day 1 Introductory lesson: Gelatin 'Gingerbread Man.' Day 2 Sheep Brain with kinesthetics. Day 3 Cow eye dissection.

Mental Health Awareness

Mental Health Awareness with Cynthia Camparato of Hunterdon Healthcare

A Clinical Coordinator of Outpatient Psychological Service will come to OTS to discuss mental health with the 8th grade class. During this program, the following topics will be covered: anxiety, depression, suicide, obsessive-compulsive disorder and eating disorders.

Poetry Workshop with BJ Ward

Nationally published, award winning poet, BJ Ward, will show students how accessible and fun poetry can be. Students may even revisit their work from 3rd grade! Every student will compose poems based on poetry that BJ reads with the class, share their work with their classmates, and discuss their reactions to poetry shared.

Dissection with Liberty Science Center

During this one-day program students will explore the anatomy and physiology of a frog through discussion and dissection. Students will define terms related to the anatomy of a frog, identify parts of a frog's anatomy and explain one frog system in detail.

Mean Girls Broadway Show

8th graders will travel to Broadway for a show! Mean Girls is a musical with music by Jeff Richmond, lyrics by Nell Benjamin, and a book by Tina Fey. It is based on the 2004 film of the same name written by Fey, which, in turn, was inspired by the book Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman. Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. But when Cady devises a plan to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a Queen Bee without getting stung.
